We got up fairly early to go on a trip to Litchfield National Park. Our first stop was to Adelaide River for a cruise to watch the crocodiles jump for food. They hang chunks of meat on a rope over the side of the boat and we watched as the crododiles jump up to get it. They can get a third of their bodies out of the water to grab the food. They do do this behavior normally when they hunt, just not at chunks of meat. It seemed a bit weird that we were sort of bating the crocs, but it was pretty incredible to see them doing this. We saw some huge crocs, one in particular was giant but only had one foot because they fight each other over territory.
There are 2 types of crocs, the salties (can live in salt water or fresh water and are dangerous) and the freshies (only live in fresh water and are generally not dangerous to us, have a more narrow snout and are smaller). Here in the Adelaide river we saw only salties.
